Damien Foundation came up with the idea of conducting Continuing Medical Education in leprosy as an endowment prize examination for final year medical students keeping in mind the decreasing expertise in the field of Leprosy.

To strengthen future leprosy expertise Damien Foundation India Trust made a tie up with Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University in the year 1996, involving the final year MBBS students from various medical colleges in the State to participate in Leprosy Endowment Prize examination by signing a MoU and depositing the endowment amount with the university.

The endowment prize examination consists of two parts theory and practical both 100-marks each. The Dr. MGR University Coordinators along with Damien Foundation will set up the question paper and conduct the practical examination. The top 30 students who have scored high marks in theory are called for practical examination.

The answer sheets are evaluated by the panel members constituted by the university. The first highest scorer both in theory and practical will be awarded Gold Medal by Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R Medical University & Damien Foundation India Trust under Endowment Prize Examination every year.

Similarly, Damien Foundation India Trust also conducts Endowment Prize Examination for Ramachandra Medical University final year students. Ramachandra Medical University awards its own gold medal for the highest marks scorer.
