St. John’s Hospital & Leprosy Services - Trivandrum

The St. John's Leprosy Control & Rehabilitation is located in Pirappancode, Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala State has been providing Leprosy Care and Services since 1963 and TB control activities since 1996. After the integration, the project mainly focused on managing complications related to leprosy at the hospital and facilitating an integrated POD programme in Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam districts. The project established reconstructive surgery unit in 2014 and this is the only tertiary level leprosy hospital in Kerala. The technical team supports the State Public Health Department to review and monitor the elimination of Leprosy. This centre is recognized by the Kerala State Government for providing training to Doctors and other health professionals of 7 Medical Colleges related to Leprosy. The leprosy hospital is renovated in 2014 with the support of Chantier Foundation, Belgium. The project also runs a home for the HIV infected children.


  • Perform reconstructive surgery for eligible deformed patients affected by leprosy.
  • Management of ulcers & complications at the hospital.
  • Support in supervision and monitoring of POD programme.
  • Providing protective footwear and other needy appliances to persons with disability.
  • Socio Economic Rehabilitation for eligible persons.
  • Create community awareness on leprosy.
  • Facilitating POD programme at district level.
