Margaret Leprosy & TB Hospital - New Delhi

The project is directly managed by DFIT (NGO) & supported by DFB, initiated leprosy control activities in South West Delhi district in the year 1999. It was one of the leprosy-endemic districts in the Union Territory of Delhi where around 800 new cases were detected annually. When the programme was integrated the centre was given the responsibility for supporting leprosy control activities in the South West district like training, monitoring and supervising the Government staff through a District Technical Support Team (DTST). Following withdrawal of DTST, the project limited its leprosy control activities to diagnosis and referral of leprosy cases to Government health facilities. In 2012, the hospital was upgraded to tertiary level care and started Reconstructive Surgery (RCS) services. The centre provides RCS facilities to Delhi and neighbouring states like Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.

Support to TB programme was taken up in 2002 by establishing one TB unit and in 2004 one more unit was established, thereby covering a total population of one million through 10 Designated Microscopy Centres (DMCs). Each centre is managed by a Microscopist-cum-Field Worker and assisted by a TBHV (provided by Govt.), together they are responsible for sputum microscopy, DOT supervision, monitoring Community DOT providers and maintaining records.

Project is managing drug resistant TB cases since 2009. The patients who are suspected with drug resistant TB are referred to Lala Ram Swaroop (LRS) TB hospital for culture, drug sensitivity tests and treatment initiation. The project provides follow up care for drug resistant TB patients and ensures adherence to treatment.
